My 1965 389 HO Pontiac Grand Prix

001.jpg

I saw this car advertised in September 2020 without engine, transmission and exhaust but surprisingly otherwise complete and extremely highly optioned.

I had been in touch with Les Kasten at Pontiac Paradise who was excited to take the car to rebuild it.  Les sourced a rebuilt T400 transmission and a 421 HO YK code engine so I spoke to Shawn Starkenburg in Spokane WA about a price.

The car was purchased for $2,800 and Shawn put me in contact with a friend of his who shipped it to Les Kasten in MN for $1,200.

My name is Michael Whitty.  I have lived in Australia most of my life except for a year in 1983/84 where I celebrated my 18th Birthday living in Beavercreek OHIO and I fell in love with American cars - especially Pontiacs.

My first US built Pontiac in Australia was a Right Hand Drive 1965 Grand Prix.  When I got the car it has a 440 engine that needed a rebuild.  I bought a 65 Bonneville with a 421 YK code engine in it and eventually wrecked that car and built the GP drivetrain with the HO motor, transmission and diff.

It was an expensive labour of love that I never saw through to the end, so when I saw this highly optioned 1965 GP in Spokane Washington I had to own it.
